2008 ELBERT COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY PLATFORM


1.  Be it resolved that the Elbert County Republican Party supports President Bush and the American Military in the prosecution of the Global War on Terror.

 

2. Resolved, Republicans consider the rights of the individual to be as important as the rights of the many.

 

3. Resolved, that taxes should not be increased at the County, State, or National level.


4. Resolved, Elbert County Republicans oppose abortion, but our pro-life position does not include punitive action against women who have an abortion. Our goal is to ensure that women with problem pregnancies have the kind of support, material and otherwise, the need for themselves and their babies; not to be punitive towards those for whose difficult situation we have only compassion.
 

5.  Resolved that the Elbert County Republicans shall support the position that the definition of marriage shall be between one man and one woman. Civil unions between same-sex partners may not be viewed as equivalent to marriage.

6.  Resolved that the Elbert County Republican Party strongly denounces any unsigned political statements made by an individual or political group and distortions of the truth made for political gain.

 

7.  Whereas, in 1994 former President Bill Clinton and the Democrat Congress enacted legislation banning certain semiautomatic firearms, and also ammunition magazines with a capacity greater than ten rounds; and Whereas, this unconstitutional ban has done nothing to reduce crime but has banned an entire class of firearms from civilian use; and

Whereas, the Democrat Congress that passed the initial ban was thrown out of office because of their contempt for our constitutional rights;

Therefore, we urge the Colorado Republican Party to officially oppose any reauthorization or expansion of the Semi-Auto ban.

8.  Resolved, the Republican Party in Elbert County is opposed to giving, or using eminent domain rights to private enterprises.

 

9.  Be it resolved, that through Homeland Security immigration laws be enforced and our borders strengthened.

 

10.  Be it resolved that Elbert County Republican Party adopts as a facet of its platform that all Life, regardless of age, infirmity, or ability to exist independently from its mother or a technical device as equal in value and worth to every other human life and should be treated with equal respect and dignity.

 

11. Be it resolved that Elbert County employees shall not be unionized and if they are unionized, the Board of County Commissions shall not recognize any union as the county employee’s bargaining agent.
